SHREVEPORT, La. — As fall settles into Shreveport, families are heading to the pumpkin patch for a seasonal tradition that also helps support people in need across the community.
The lakefront pumpkin patch in Shreveport’s Provenance neighborhood off Southern Loop offers pumpkins, photo opportunities and plenty of festive fall scenery. It’s also a major fundraiser for the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier.
Proceeds from every pumpkin purchased support Junior League projects, including the organization’s Red Apron Pantry, located at the league’s offices at 2601 Line Ave.
“One thing that’s unique about our pantry is that people get to actually come in and shop. It’s not like we’re giving them a package of food and saying, Here you go, have a great day. We’re bringing dignity back to their experience,” said Jessica Latin, Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier president.
The pumpkin patch has become a popular destination for families and even their pets.
“People bring their kids here, their fur babies here, and it’s a great family photo,” organizers said.

Collier Phillips, age 3, enjoys picking a pumpkin.
Three-year-old Collier Phillips was among the young visitors enjoying the experience.
“Is that too big? I think I’m going to get this pumpkin,” Phillips said.
Setting up the pumpkin patch took months of planning and a major effort to get thousands of pumpkins in place.
“This has been eight months of planning, and then it was time to unload the trucks and get all these thousands of pumpkins placed so they’re looking nice and neat,” Latin said.
Prices for pumpkins range depending on size and variety. Access is free. The Pumpkin Patch at Provenance will remain open through Oct. 29.
