My favorite spooky-season dinner of the year is almost here. For the past nine years, the powerhouse duo of Chef Gabe and Chef Lalo at El Cabo Verde in Shreveport has been creating one of the most unique and sought-after dining experiences in Northwest Louisiana: the annual Día de Muertos dinner.
Somehow, every single year, these dinners manage to get even better. Last year, they brought in two distinct teams straight from Mexico, one dedicated entirely to artisanal tequila and the other focused on rare vanilla.
If you’re a total food nerd who loves feeling like Anthony Bourdain discovering new eats, this event feeds right into that beautiful delusion! My absolute favorite part? You don’t have to buy a plane ticket to taste the authentic flavors of another country.
Experience Oaxaca: A Five-Course Journey
The El Cabo Verde crew describes this as “One of our most anticipated events of the year,” and it’s easy to see why. This year, you’ll experience the deep, authentic flavors of Oaxaca, Mexico, over a decadent five-course meal paired with artisanal tequila.
In celebration of their ninth anniversary, the chefs will be revisiting classic regional flavors, like bold cacao, bright vanilla, and the rich, earthy notes found in northern Oaxaca cuisine. This menu is paired perfectly with a tasting of four different tequila expressions and a handcrafted cocktail designed just for the evening.
Where Tradition, Flavor, and Artistry Meet
To enhance the overall experience, the restaurant space will undergo a complete transformation. Expect festive, thematic décor reflective of the cultural celebration, an evening where Mexican tradition, flavor, and culinary artistry come together beautifully.
A Quick Note on Día de Muertos: This is a cherished Mexican holiday where families joyfully welcome back the souls of their loved ones for a brief reunion filled with special food, drink, and remembrance.
The dinner will take over El Cabo Verde on Tuesday October 28th the address is 1023 Provenance Place Suite 210, Shreveport, LA.
