It’s a sight that can make you think you’ve stumbled on an oasis of pumpkins. The “Pumpkin Patch at Provenance” puts the heart in Halloween.
The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier organizes the lakeside Patch with help from sponsors. It opened Oct. 1 and runs until Oct. 31, with fun happenings weekends and weeknights Tuesday through Friday.
The pumpkins are sold for a variety of purchase price points. The money raised will go to junior league projects like the mentoring program “magic” and the red apron food pantry.
Maddie Menefee is JLSB’s co-chairwoman of the Pumpkin Patch project. She said planning begins roughly a year before the annual event to ensure enough pumpkins are ordered and the site is secured. Now, she and others focus on enjoying the experience.
Menefee said, “So we’ve had engagements at the Patch, we’ve had gender reveals at the Patch and this year we’ve had so many homecoming pictures at the patch. It’s beautiful and who doesn’t love taking a picture with the pumpkins?”
There are many fun programs still left before the Patch closes out its Halloween season.
JLSB President-Elect Shelvia Grant Davis said, “There’s tons of food trucks coming through. There’s entertainment for children and it’s just picturesque, something very fun and very cute to get those nice fall photos with your family and friends, and when you are buying a pumpkin, you support one of our community programs.”
